Do-it-yourself cement mortarHow to prepare the mortar by hand or with a mixer
Proportions to be respected: 2 parts of sand for each part of concrete.
Add the sand to the cauldron and pour the cement in a 2: 1 ratio. Although these are the proportions generally recommended by any bricklayer, it is advisable to read the instructions on the back of the purchase package.
1). First, mix the sand well with the cement, without adding water.
2). Add an appropriate amount of water to obtain a soft but dense mixture. Mix these three ingredients thoroughly.
3). Add the additive in the quantities indicated on the back of the package and mix thoroughly.
If your intent is to prepare the mortar to repair a decaying wall, I recommend that you read the guidehow to recover an external wall.
For small quantities you can mix vigorously with a trowel, alternatively use an electric mixer. To mix the components of a dough you can use the drill attached to a rod with whisk.
For products with a fluid or semi-dense consistency (so if you intend to prepare a mortar with fine sand and cement, colors, resinous materials, adhesive compounds ...) you can use a 70 mm mixer, while for mixes with a dense consistency (epoxy products, mortar with river sand ...) a 100 mm mixer is required, for more consistent products (bituminous, coarse mortar) it is better to have a whisk with a 140 mm agitator. Concrete mixer, as used to prepare the mortar
Thereconcrete mixerit is suitable for preparing large quantities ofMalta. It is easy to use and the precautions are few!
Before turning off theconcrete mixerisbasiccareful rinsing of the glass to avoid encrustations.
How is the mortar prepared in the concrete mixer?
1). Pour the dry sand and gravel into the glass, already rotating. Let the two aggregates mix.
2). Pour the necessary cement and leave the glass still in rotation. The cement should not be added all at once to avoid a dust escaping from the glass of theconcrete mixer.
3). Gradually add the water needed for the dough. It is difficult to give you the exact doses of water because these change according to the use you intend to make of the cement and therefore whether you need a more or less liquid mixture.
4). Let the mixer rotate freely and, before stopping it, check that there are no lumps inside (usually it only takes a few minutes but everything depends on the power of theconcrete mixer and its cargo).
5). Turn the glass over (still rotating) and pour the contents into the wheelbarrow. At this point you just have to use the prepared mortar and rinse the glass vigorously.
