Hemp seed oil, properties
Like any oil, it is rich in fats but 80% of the fat component is made up of essential fatty acids. Among the various essential fatty acids we point out linoleic acid (omega-6), a good 55%. Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) content for 22%, gamma linolenic acid (omega-6), up to 4% and stearidonic acid (omega-3) content up to 2%.
To make you better understand these proportions it will be enough to explain that a spoonful of hemp seed oil (about 15 ml), manages to cover the entire daily requirement that we humans have of alpha-linolenic acid. Compared to other vegetable oils, hemp seed oil has a low content of saturated fatty acids.
Among its limits, let's say that thehemp seed oilit has a low smoke point, so it is not suitable for frying.
Just like linseed oil and all oils that contain high amounts of unsaturated fatty acids, hemp oil tends to becomerancidin a short time if it is not stored at low temperatures and in dark environments.
